Maseeh Entrepreneurship Prize Competition (MEPC) Announces Winners

The USC Viterbi School of Engineering Maseeh Entrepreneurship Prize Competition recently entered its third year since its inception in 2010. Finalists of the competition gathered on March 28, 2013 for the final round of presentations. The competition was fierce as seven hopeful entrepreneurial teams presented their business ideas to a panel of judges in the Forum of Tutor Campus Center at USC. Each presentation was 10-minutes in length and outlined how entrepreneurial ideas could revolutionize the field of each competitor and the probability of high profit in the long run.

Four Alumni Choice Awards were up for the taking, ranging from $5,000 to $25,000, as well as the $50,000 grand prize. And for some teams like Fluid Synchrony, matching government funds could make any prize a huge benefactor for their company.

After much consideration, the grand prize and giant check for $50,000 was awarded to the Second Spectrum team: USC Viterbi computer scientists Rajiv Maheswaran and Yu-Han Chang and their students, Adam Wexler, Sheldon Kwok, and Tal Levy.

Second Spectrum develops proprietary software that transforms data from motion tracking and vision systems, used to monitor motion-based sports like basketball, into intuitive and meaningful analytics and visualizations to uncover insights, develop game strategies, improve player selection, and diminish play injuries.
